John Woo's new World War II film Flying Tigers has been in the works for some time now. The fighter squadron story emerged last December when it was part of a trio of projects that Tom Cruise was circling. Since then John Woo announced that he was making the Christopher McQuarrie and Mason Alley scripted picture his next project, but there's been no further updates. Now that all changes in a packed story from Variety about New Regency's upcoming projects, we almost missed the brief mention that Tom Cruise is attached to Flying Tigers, marking his grand return to the cockpit for the first time since 1986's Top Gun.
